Keep Your Elbows Off the Table!
01.Brief
The Losonnante listening table explores solid-body listening, where sound travels by bone conduction. Designed for use in cultural venues, it invites users to lean their elbows to listen. The objective was to collaborate with Linksium to transform a research project into a reproducible product that enhances the sensory experience.
" The sound travels along the arms to the ears. "
02.Conceptualisation
The team first imagined a unique object integrating technology and design. Using strategic design tools, we determined choices adapted to users and the market. We separated the technology from the interface, which expanded the possibilities for use in various environments. This approach also optimized production costs. Physical engagement is essential to activate the device. We have carefully chosen shapes and materials, favoring simplicity and elegance so that the sound experience is at the heart of the interaction. Wood and Corian were chosen to encourage touch.
Interface
The interface is simple, without buttons or screen, to encourage concentration on listening. Start-up is automatic when bends are detected.
Engineering and materials
The design took into account technical and budgetary constraints. Materials like wood and metal are well suited for small to medium batch production.
03.Innovation
LOSONNANTE’s innovation is based on a vibrational bone conduction system. Now you just have to place your elbows on the table so that the vibrations pass through the forearm and reach the inner ear. For this, the “LOSONNANTE heart” has been completely redesigned. This solution was developed in collaboration with an acoustician, an electronics engineer and the project leaders. It is now the subject of a patent application.
Results
Simplicity
We opted for a minimalist product that fades away in favor of the sound experience it offers.
Satisfaction
A low-tech approach for an immersive and contemplative experience.
