The role of designers in the development of sustainable and circular production
Le Design Spot invited us to participate in a conference to share our perspective on the role of designers in developing more sustainable and circular production and consumption: (New) Ways of Making and Producing for a Simple Future.
The traditional linear model of "extract, make, dispose" is obsolete, and to envision an optimistic future, we are exploring alternative models. The adoption of innovative production techniques, such as 3D printing or digital manufacturing, enables conception for durability, repairability, and adaptability.
As designers, we also have the opportunity to take a more holistic and collaborative design approach, involving stakeholders throughout the design process and the solution’s life cycle.
Through these approaches, design solutions can be not only environmentally sustainable but also socially and culturally relevant, accessible, and inclusive.
